When it comes to dining in a resort town like Whistler, it can be quite intimidating trying to decide where to go. Do you go to that place with the best reviews? Perhaps that other place that the hotel recommended? We’re here to put an end to that angst. We say: when in Whistler, do as the Whistlerites do! Here’s our top five local hangouts in Whistler, BC:
Oh. Em. Gee. Peaked Pies is definitely our go-to for great comfort food. They offer Australian savoury pies, sweet pies and breakfast pies, which are baked daily and are all handmade right here in Whistler! They also offer a variety of toppings for you to customize and create your own Peaked Pie. We’d recommend The Hopper, (kangaroo in a cabernet merlot balsamic reduction), y’know…for that true Canadian experience.
For something (way) further south of the border, head for La Cantina. Their homemade, fresh Mexican food is second to none and can be made just the way you like it. Whether taco, burrito, quesadilla or bowl – add your protein and your veggies and enjoy! They have two dining locations in Whistler. The Nesters Cantina features a regular Happy Hour, which includes $2.50 tacos and $4 Coronas every Tuesday.
Easily the best pizza in town, Creekbread focus on organic, locally-sourced produce, free range chicken, and nitrate free meats. They even use a primitive wood fired oven for authenticity. You’ll find them in Whistler Creekside and we’d advised using their call-ahead seating policy. This is not a dining reservation but ensures minimal waiting time at this popular locals’ spot.
From share plates and flatbreads to local beer and craft cocktails, Cure Lounge & Patio is definitely a crowd-pleaser. The Lounge sits at the edge of Nita Lake with wonderful mountain views. Cure offers local beers and craft cocktails as well as a nice variety of BC wines. Check out the daily happy hour from 3:00 pm – 5:00 pm for feature drinks pricing as well as daily dining features.
If you find yourself in the Upper Village, you have to try Portobello! Besides having some of the best coffee and pastries, Portobello offer a tempting menu of legendary made-to-order sandwiches. They also feature a number of BBQ and smokehouse favourites alongside classics such as Grilled Cheese and Mac ‘n’ Cheese. You will not be disappointed.
