Whether booking a family vacation or a couple’s retreat, we’re all looking for the best possible value. It can be tricky navigating the barrage of online comparison sites. How can a webpage be telling you one price but another webpage charge double for seemingly the same product? Sometimes it just takes a bit of savvy and some insider knowledge to book the very best deal for you. Here’s our top tips for you to find great value Whistler accommodation:
Book Direct
Many third-party sites work from a pre-authorized base rate. Some may even charge fees too. To ensure you get the most bang for your buck, our recommendation is always to book direct. Telephone or email the accommodation and give a brief outline of your dates and requirements. Make it clear what you hope to get out of your visit. The reservation agent will always try to match your needs to a specific room type. From there, they may be able to give you an idea of pricing within a 14-day bracket of your preferred stay dates. There may even be a package or offer that you’re automatically eligible for, such as a BC Residents’ Rate.

Loyalty Matters
Many hotels offer incentives for guest loyalty. You may collect points towards experiences or perhaps get a complimentary upgrade subject to availability. There may even be a dedicated Return Guest Rate, which could offer exclusive savings on the best available rate. Another perk of loyalty is that the hotel will already hold a profile for you, which may outline some of your preferences. This can begin an internal communication at the hotel. Housekeeping can meet requests regarding your room, such as bedding, for example, and the concierge may even begin drafting an itinerary ready for your arrival.
Advance Bookings
Booking last minute is not often a luxury for many of us due to work or family commitments. However, it’s worth remembering that advance bookings are subject to big savings too! Knowing your dates ahead of time and being on top of your planning could save you up to 35%, for example. A resort such as Whistler fills up pretty darn quick, so knowing that your accommodation is secured is one less hassle. It gives you plenty of time to start planning the fun stuff!

Packages
When booking accommodation, it’s always worth checking out what’s on offer in terms of packages. Some hotels may be able to offer you a bed & breakfast package, which ultimately saves you money on your breakfasts each day. Perhaps you’re considering a peaceful spa day during your vacation? It may be worthwhile checking out a Relaxation Package. Consider your visit as a whole experience rather than as individual elements and it could save you money in the long run.
Added Value
Try not to be sucked in by the lowest price. Look at the bigger picture. What’s actually included in that cost? Many accommodation providers base their rates strictly on room-only. It’s always worth contacting the hotel ahead of time to check for hidden costs and to see where the added value lies. Want to use Wi-Fi? That could cost extra. Resort fee? That’s probably extra too. We’d recommend checking the amenities page of a few different properties. As an example, Nita Lake Lodge offers complimentary, unlimited wi-fi throughout the hotel. Guests also enjoy complimentary access to canoes, kayaks, stand-up paddleboards and bicycles! That’s money saved, which can be spent elsewhere.
