5 Ways To Improve Your Skiing in Whistler

November 14, 2019 by Nita Lake Lodge

For many, simply skiing in Whistler is a check on the old bucket list. However, for some, North America’s largest ski resort beckons with the challenge of self-improvement.

With over 200 marked runs, 8,171 acres of terrain, 16 alpine bowls, and 3 glaciers, Whistler Blackcomb is the perfect place to push some boundaries and work on your technique.

Here are 5 ways to improve your skiing in Whistler:

Extremely Canadian

A Steeps Clinic with Extremely Canadian is perfect for the confident skier, who may feel as though they have plateaued in their abilities. If you can ski an un-groomed “Black Diamond” run at your home hill, then you belong with Extremely Canadian. Their sole aim is to improve your freeriding skills and they do this with technical instruction, steep skiing tactics, and local knowledge. These guys claim: “After two unreal days skiing in Whistler with us, you will be charging with confidence.”

North Face Women’s Camps

A great way to build your overall confidence while skiing in Whistler is with the North Face Women’s Camps. These female-led programs will help you expand your terrain and develop your skills. Camps run throughout the season starting December 8th and offer everything to boost your ski experience. This includes an equipment review, all-mountain skills training, and even a North Face goodie bag. These camps are popular, though, and we recommend securing your place early!

Club Linc

If you’re local to the Sea-to-Sky region then this one might be for you! Club Linc meets every Saturday for 19 on-mountain sessions. The program is designed for advanced skiers with an emphasis on adventure skiing, high mileage, and top coaching. Club Linc is named for head coach & founder Lincoln Phillips. Lincoln is a level 4 coach with over 20 years of teaching skiing in Whistler. At $999, it’s quite the investment but there’s no doubt in our minds that the rewards are plentiful!

Backcountry Intro

If you’re keen to explore beyond the resort, then an Intro To Backcountry is perfect for you. The website reads: ‘In a full day of mind-blowing guided backcountry snowboarding, telemarking or skiing, Association of Canadian Mountain Guides (ACMG) will share techniques and tactics to hone your skiing, boost your safety knowledge, and heighten your awareness in big mountain terrain.’

Whistler Blackcomb Lessons

Whistler Blackcomb is a melting pot of invaluable ski coaching and great value can always be found in their ski/snowboard lessons. Categorised into child, teen, and adult, you can choose half-day or full-day tuition at levels beginner, intermediate or advanced. Group lessons are the most economical way to develop your skills and also discover new areas of the resort that you perhaps never knew about!
